Baking soda kills bed bugs
Baking soda works wonders as a cleaning solution, but there is no scientific evidence that baking soda works in getting rid of bed bugs successfully. The theory is that baking soda can cause the bugs to dehydrate, but according to Rentokil, a local pest control company, "baking soda actually breaks down when it comes into contact with water, therefore the idea of it being able to absorb the fluid from the bodies of the bed bugs is not concrete."
Cloves can deter common ants found in homes
Cloves are thought to contain active ingredients that can repel insects such as mosquitoes, flies, ants, wasps and mites. However, just placing cloves near the window may not be enough. It is most effective in the form of essential oil or clove extract. If the concentration is high enough, it could kill some insects such as ants.
Pandan leaves help deter cockroaches
Placing fresh pandan leaves around is not a treatment, it's only a deterrent! "Cockroaches may avoid it, but they are not killed. Moreover, they could become a food source for cockroaches when the fresh leaves dry up," says Rentokil. A better and long-term solution would be get rid of food and water sources as well as shelter for the cockroaches. Keeping your home clean keeps them from finding comfortable places to hide and live in.
