You might not have guessed it, but this chic condominium was once a tired-looking, decade-old apartment. The new homeowners, a young couple with their baby daughter, tasked interior designer Arjan Twilhaar from Aiden T with the extensive overhaul.
Eclectic interior design
After a reconfiguration of space, Arjan gave the home traditional elements such as wall skirtings and eclectic details like furniture in weathered finishes.
The cool grey paint and dark wood-finished floor, however, gave it a polished look.
Contemporary furniture
To bridge the traditional and eclectic features in the home, the homeowners opted for contemporary furniture in clean finishes.
Contemporary furniture can provide a balance to the ornate and intricate detailing often found in traditional and eclectic interiors.
Its simplicity and clean finishes can act as a counterpoint to the more elaborate features, creating a balanced and visually interesting contrast.
White brick wall
White brick is also a highlight here; it adds texture, as well as a soft industrial touch, to the space.
Acting as a neutral backdrop, the wall allows the eclectic elements to shine.
Its clean and timeless appearance doesn’t compete with the colors, patterns, and materials in the room. Instead, it provides a cohesive and calming element that ties the room together.
Herringbone pattern
“The kitchen was paved with a rough white brick in a herringbone design, which is offset with the navy carpentry and crisp white countertops,” says Arjan.
Eclectic design
Fun and eclectic features, such as these window shutters and a pizzeria sign, fill the home; it creates an edgy vibe to this young couple’s home.
Architrave
This architrave is part of Arjan’s plan to create a layout which allows one area to flow into another easily.
An architrave is an architectural element that serves as the lower part of an entablature, which is the superstructure that rests horizontally upon the columns or supports of a building.
Classical Architecture
The entablature is typically found in classical architectural styles, such as Greek and Roman, and is divided into three main parts: the architrave, the frieze, and the cornice.
Walk-in wardrobe
Vinyl wood blinds hide the aluminium window frames.
The walk-in wardrobe features grey cabinets with black trim, a captivating and versatile addition to the overall decor.
The black trim adds a touch of contrast and definition, allowing the wardrobe to stand out without overwhelming the space.
Retro tile patterns
The bathrooms are kept monochrome with a splash of colour.
The vibrant colors and intricate patterns of the retro patterned tiles draw the eye, making the floor a captivating feature in the room.
