Home: Two bedroom, 2,077 sq ft apartment in Lorong Ah Soo
Interior Designer: Wayne Chan of Icon Interior Design
Cost: $130, 000
Residents: Family of four – Kenneth and Jael Tan, with their two young children, Oliver and Odette
Instead of a modern, contemporary and streamlined look which would cost less, dentist Kenneth Tan and his nurse wife Jael opted for a home that personified their past travels. The couple particularly liked the look of a fireplace, but knew it would not have any use in Singapore. So they created a painted-over white brick wall that looks like a closed-up fireplace, complete with a mantel shelf.
When they got married in 2012, the couple knew they wanted their home to reflect their favourite places they had visited and would exude warmth and comfort when they came home from a busy day at work. Their two-bedroom, 2,077 sq ft apartment in Lorong Ah Soo was designed by Mr Wayne Chan of Icon Interior Design. Renovation and furnishings cost $130, 000.
The couple is most proud of their two bathrooms, of which the master bathroom is inspired by the Maldivian beach villa the couple stayed in that stood over the ocean.
The dining area has a floral bench booth and rustic teak furniture inspired by some of the cosy bed-and-breakfasts they stayed at during their honeymoon in Europe.
