DESIGN FOR DISPLAY

Question: I like to display my Lego set and Clay Miniatures in a bookcase. How do I prevent them from looking lost among the books?

Answer: If you are customising your bookcase, ask your contractor to create a section of small niches. Placing the dividers closer together in one area will create a space ideal for your tiny treasures. In the console shelving shown, tiny toys and lego sets are happily displayed with the owner’s music collection.

For a good decorative display, get the scale right, so that the niches “frame” the miniatures compactly. Measure the base of your shelf and figure out how you can group your figurines to arrive at the best size and proportions.

If you have to use a standard bookcase, look for modular wooden display boxes like those from Ikea, which will house your collections just as well. Paint them in a striking colour to stand out and create various “scenarios” with your figurines. Place these boxes in a row at eye level for the best impact.
