FLOOR LAMINATE: DAMAGED OR POOR QUALITY?
Question: My new laminate floor isn't as bright as the sample I was shown. It's also scratched, and a few pieces are already sticking up. What can I do?
Answer: It sounds like the quality of the finish on the laminate isn't very good. Quality laminates can withstand sun fading and minor scratches. You should call on the warranty (normally a one-year validity) offered by the laminate dealer (or contractor if he sourced it for you) to get a refund or replacement of your flooring. Raised corners or pieces of planking sticking out are usually a sign of water damage, not of poor quality. Even the best laminates are vulnerable to water damage due to the material they are made of, which is usually compressed wood or chipboard.
Always keep your floor dry, and wipe it after mopping. If rain does get in, wipe it dry immediately and turn on the air-conditioning or fans for an "express dry" effect.
