Hang in There

Question:
I want to add another row of closets for my expanding wardrobe, but there isn't enough space. How can I work in more storage?

Answer: Consider doing away with the cabinetry altogether. A wooden wardrobe frame, walls and doors would form a chunky "barrier" and really reduce the size of your bedroom.

Take a leaf from Spacedge designer William Chan's solution for one young couple's wardrobe (pictured) - the designer simply suspended the clothes from hanging bars from the ceiling and added overhead racks for storage boxes. This means the volume of hanging clothes (although huge) take up very little visual space as the total mass does not touch the floor. This open wardrobe system will also make it easier for you to locate your outfits. Another plus is that the clothes will be aired as they aren't confined in an enclosed space.
