Question:
How can I hide the ugly metal door of our bomb shelter from view. Is there a simpler way besides Covering the whole wall in plywood just to conceal it?

Answer:

Hiding the metal door behind a false wall of fibreboard or veneered plywood is an expensive solution, but there are other cost-effective designs that will do the job just as well. Turn the eyesore into a work of art with a wallcovering or a designer sticker film on the door itself.

A more permanent “cover-up” would be to “layer” another door over the metal one. This solution would hide the bulky door handle and provide a clean surface that blends into the wall. One homeowner went for the plush treatment, covering his shelter with a second, quilted fabric door panel to match the walls (below). This glamorous detailing gives the space
a streamlined, polished feel.
