Chairs aren't just useful as seats - if you have one too many, turn it into a shelf. Saw a wooden chair in two across its width and push it up against a wall, holding it up with mounting hooks or picture hooks (heavy-duty 3M tape works well, too). Pile your books on the seat, and hang items such as umbrellas off the bars of the backrest. Place it beside your door as a statement coat hanger, or by your bedside to hold your nighttime reading.
