Why move when you can renovate? That’s what Samrio Tok and wife Grace did after almost a decade of living in this five-room HDB apartment. It was a chance for Samrio to go for his dream look of raw cement screed and Raymond Kua of The Design Practice responded with great enthusiasm. “Only about three out of 10 clients are adventurous like this couple,” the designer explains.

Samrio reveals that he even toyed with the idea of embedding bolts and old screwdrivers into the cement floors. He’s saving that for later, he says with a laugh. For now, the couple love the look and convenience of having no tiles (except in the bathrooms) or parquet.
