Down to earth

Walking into the apartment of homeowners Alan Soon and Bridgit O'Donovan, it's easy to see where the married couple's interests lie. In the living room, floor-to-ceiling shelves are stacked with books, while displayed throughout are the husband's prints and collection of vintage cameras.

In fact, the owners' brief to principal designer Ken Lee of Space Matters was to create a home that reflected their passions. There is the noticeable absence of a television set in the living room, too, as "we wanted a place for conversation," reveal Alan, an editor at Yahoo!, and his PR consultant wife Bridgit. Living in an Art Deco-style HDB walk-up in Tiong Bahru, they were also keen to "respect the rich heritage" of the charming neighbourhood.
