East meets west
Having his own home means Joseph can finally display the chic homeware he has amassed over the years, combining them with both current design elements and a dose of old-world charm to make his home stylish, yet very practical and personal, too.
With his keen eye for design, it didn't take the bachelor long to see potential in the space - never mind that the interior was old and somewhat neglected. The bright hues of the pop art pieces lend a lively punch of colour to the monochromatic palette of the space, such as the floor, which is clad in homogeneous black tiles from the entrance to the living and dining areas all the way to the kitchen. However, to soften its industrial look, he hung two hexagonal pendant lamps from US furniture store West Elm above the island top.
When it comes to lighting, Joseph has his favourites. "I love contemporary Italian-designed lamps - they're timeless." His ceiling lamp is the Artemide Parate by Alessandro Mendini, and the balloon-headed lamp in a corner of the living room is a Flos Gatto by Achille Castiligioni.
