This young family's massive wet kitchen might see most of the cooking action in this sprawling bungalow at Dalvey Road, but it is their dry kitchen that draws the most praise. Fitted with the Valcucine system from Italy, known for its toughened glass countertops and choice of lightweight aluminium over wooden cabinet frames, the space is a beautiful meld of sleek profiles, functionality and fun - the last in the form of the canary-yellow glass cabinet fronts. "The family wanted a kitchen that lasts. We also picked yellow as it makes the space more lively for the kids, who eat and play there almost everyday," says Stephanie Bay, CEO of Hugo Kitchens, which distributes Valcucine in Singapore. Zones for cooking, washing and eating are carved in the huge space. The island countertop has a breakfast area on one side and the induction hob on another, separated by a clear glass panel for interaction. Parallel to this is the washing area, which features cabinet fronts of waterproof, multi-layered solid laminate in a light wood grain that complements the overall yellow and dark grey palette.

The appliances - oven, microwave and coffee machine - are neatly arranged in a row and occupy another stretch of cabinetry, which includes a unique wall-hung shelving unit that operates via a balancing mechanism. Despite being a single 2m-long panel, it can be easily lifted as it's made of a special honeycombed aluminium structure that's extremely light. Add to that the abundant daylight streaming in from the windows and you've got a space not only high on style, but warmly inviting and cheerful, too.
