Nest of Ideas

Design has always been at the core of Marc Ling and Erika Foo’s lives—they met while studying visual communication and were former colleagues where Erika was art director and Marc concentrated on branding. “We had very clear ideas about what we wanted,” Marc narrates. “We knew the style and the look our home should have but we needed a space planning expert,” Erika adds. “That’s where Kelly (Choong of interior design firm Project File) came in.”
Known for their clean lines and glossy finishes, Project File was the perfect fit for Marc and Erika’s Scandinavian-inspired residence. Kooky details like the off-kilter shoe cabinets, a set of digital display frames rotating black-and-white photos taken by Marc and Erika’s hand-painted light panels add character to the spic-and-span scheme. A white, textured wall made of panels called wall flats the couple bought from Inhabit serves as a feature and, accidentally, acoustic wall. Bought online, the embossed wall panels are made from bamboo pulp and, Marc adds, “surprisingly bounce off sound really well.” While Marc and Erika did a lot of the furniture sourcing—mixing online buys like the lamps from CB2 (by US furniture giant Crate & Barrel) and cushions from Inhabit with items from local shops Xtra, Om and Air—“our choices had to be approved by Kelly,” Erika laughs.
