New Chinois Rising
Contractor Anrick Goh met multi-awarded designer Adrian Chua of design firm Sevenvine, while working on a project for Changi Airport. Impressed with the designer’s versatile style, he approached Adrian when it came time to build his own home. "It took us 14 months from design development to handover because Adrian and I were simultaneously working on a few other projects as well," Anrick narrates.

"I wanted to create an Asian Bohemian vibe," Adrian says of the semi-detached. "It's eclectic but tastefully tied together by a floral theme that is neither ornate nor feminine." He achieved this with patterned acrylic pendant lights, wallpaper from Goodrich Global and architectural carvings from Bali. He also used bright yet minimal splashes of colour to add punch to the neutral base of marble, slate grey, matte steel and timber: a green wall in the living room, a yellow console table in the second floor hallway, a pink console table in the master bedroom, a green daybed in the garden. Traditional yet oversized and DayGlo-coloured Chinese furniture, like the daybed, yoke-back armchairs and console tables are combined with neutral-toned pieces from Think, the furniture design and interior styling shop of which Adrian is also the design director. And Anrick would have it no other way. "I like Adrian’s work," he says. Although the builder was deeply involved in the construction of his home, he gave Adrian free reign on the design. "I would only comment on the practicality or the buildability of Adrian’s proposed designs," he laughs.

The other members of Anrick's family appreciate Adrian's work as well; while the designer maintained the contemporary Chinois look in the different bedrooms, he also tailored each room's theme to its user's needs, such as the airy, lighter mix of country for Anrick's mum.
