Solo notes
A single armchair by iconic designer Le Corbusier sits in the centre of this 160sqf room in a condominium in the east. The floor is carpeted and the walls are soundproofed, apart from the one with a picture window looking out to the sea. Thick blackout curtains line that wall - the homeowner draws them shut if he wants to watch a movie on the AV screen that descends from the ceiling. But he rarely watches anything here, for he commissioned the space specially for listening to music, ranging from instrumental to classic rock.
His own private escape, the music room is simply decorated with the homeowner's collection of movie posters. Currently on display are ones for The Godfather, Infernal Affairs, Taxi Driver and Yellow Submarine. The Le Corbusier armchair sits in the sweet spot, at the apex of an invisible equilateral triangle with two state-of-the-art speakers from Magico. At the rear of the room is a storage shelf for CDs and DVDs, and a high-tech Esoteric CD player.
Designer Alex Kwan of interiors firm Muse:um ID worked with the homeowner via e-mail during the renovation of the apartment, as the latter was out of the country. But the resident arrived in Singapore before his "extreme fidelity" speakers did, so the music room was the last space finished in the renovation. But now that it is, he happily hides away in solitude to listen to his music and take in the gorgeous views of the East Coast Marina.
