With a keen interest in retro furnishings and accessories, the homeowners — a couple in their 30s — of this 883sqf four-room HDB DBSS in Clementi wanted their home to be a space where they can display their collection. Engaging the help of the design team from Seed Interiors, the materials, lighting fixtures and furniture were selected to ensure the couple's collection of items complimented the overall look.
A warm colour palette was chosen, and the designers made a concerted effort to source for unconventional light designs as the homeowners wanted to infuse a touch of the industrial style to create an interesting, eclectic aesthetic.
The pink and white retro patterned sofa adds textures to the living room. A standalone four-drawer chest creates a niche where knick knacks can be displayed, while giving the home its character.
A movable dining table customised by Peng Handcrafted sits next to the corridor, and is illuminated with three unique hanging pendant lamps fitted with exposed bulbs.
Also designed by Peng Handcrafted is this bar table in the balcony, which offers more seating space especially since the homeowners enjoy having guests over.
One of the major challenges in the home design was the customised faux brick wall in the living room, as the tiler had to inidividually hand-cut the pieces to create a unique pattern that leads the eye into the corridor space.
Another eye-catching feature in the home is the lighting display along the corridor. It serves both function and aesthetics and remains affordable, with simple DIY elements.
For added features in the bedroom, and to incorporate styles of both the retro and industrial look, exposed trunking were used on the walls and ceilings, complemented with old-fashioned style furnishings such as the step drawers and fan.
To add ambience, the designers added pendant lamps on each side of the bed.
Patterned tiles lend the master bathroom its retro vibes.
The homeowners spent $17,000 excluding furnishings.
