The design concept of this 1,100 sqf five-room HDB flat in Sengkang is inspired by photography – two core areas in the home, named Lomography Walls and Dark Room, are defined using the colours red and black.
The counters and shelves of the kitchen are inspired by strokes of white light that can be seen in certain creative photography.
The bachelor pad is owned by an advertising creative director and photographer, and was designed by Vincent Goi and Catherine Low of Hue D.
The Dark Room is a black “box” that houses the owner’s study and walk-in wardrobe, and is named after the room in which phtographers traditionally develop photos.
A customised boutique-style display console in the walk-in wardrobe stores the owner’s accessories.
A raised platform was built next to the windows in the master bedroom, which allows the owner to enjoy the view while he lounges.
Initially skeptical, the homeowner later conceded that the dark and earthy tones that interior design firm Wal Associates gave his 1,302sqf HDB flat in Jalan Tenaga was a great backdrop to hang his photographs.
Designed with wood-look cabinetry and statement accessories, the corner unit opens up into an airy kitchen.
The owner edited his own photographs into black and white so that they look like a unified set when hung on the walls.
The owner requested for a larger bedroom, so one room was sacrificed to expand the size of his common bathroom, and make way for his wardrobe and study area.
A “must-have” of the owner’s was this man cave, in which the owner watches movies, displays toys and stores his photography gear.
