Conceived by jewellery designer Carolyn Kan of Carrie K., Keepers started out in 2011 as a quarterly themed showcase within her atelier, which occasionally sprang up as pop-up stores over the years. Keepers has now evolved into its own permanent multi-label store known as Keepers PlayShop, carrying handpicked Singapore fashion, furnishing and food, located in the National Design Centre.
The PlayShop is a concept store comprising hands-on experiences and retail, hence its name references the dual aspects of play and shop. Items and activities are curated to a theme that changes every two months so that customers will always find new discoveries. The first theme upon its opening in November 2017 was fittingly ‘Festive PlayShop’, with goods stocked being ideal stocking fillers and workshops like decorative wreath-making.
Shoppers who appreciate uncommon and artisanal goods will be spoilt for choice at the PlayShop, where over 40 designers and craftsmen are represented, such as Ling Wu, Klarra, Paper in My Attic and Tresse. There are also Keepers exclusive labels like chocolate makers Fossa, and Binary Style, who design uniquely printed scarves.

On the new experiential aspects of the PlayShop, Carolyn says that “workshops were created so that our guests can grow an appreciation for craftsmanship, and better understand designers' inspiration and processes”. Interested individuals can sign up online for their workshops held all year round, such as brush pen calligraphy by Nehohmee, and leathersmithing by Kultskin.

The PlayShop will change its theme to ‘Modern Heirlooms’ in time for Chinese New Year in January 2018, which will present a contemporary interpretation of Chinese weddings, such as in their qipaos and heirloom jewellery. So keep an eye for that and the continuous slew of workshops and showcases throughout the year at the Keepers PlayShop.
