Imagine starting your mornings with a leisurely stroll through the cobbled streets of the ancient village, past the old wine cellars and chirping sparrows, before heading off to meet Andrea for a lesson on growing vegetables. Your afternoon is spent in the field harvesting olives with Vincenzo, followed by an informative session on making fresh honey with Rocco the resident beekeeper. End your days with a cup of apperitivo up on the roof of your rural home after a sumptuous pasta feast prepared by the congenial Rosa, a grandmotherly figure with a knack for making handmade linguine.

Enjoy a slower pace of life here while learning traditional crafts and skills from villagers.

Visitors will learn to speak in Italian along with getting to know the various personalities in Grottole.

The Italian Sabbatical is a collaboration between Airbnb experience and Wonder Grottole and its aim is to help bring attention to the village of Grottole, which is in danger of disappearing. According to the website, the village is currently inhabited by 300 villagers, with over 600 empty homes. The four participants selected will spend time learning crafts and skills from local villagers, before sharing their experiences with other visitors to the village. It is also a rare opportunity for the local villagers to learn about new cultures from around the world.

Applications will be accepted until February 17, 2019 at 11:59 pm Central European Time.
