The Park House Food Merchants is a 200-seat, loft-style restaurant nestled in the newly renovated Mona Vale Hotel in Sydney. Here's what we love about its design, which was done by Australian design practice Alexander & Co.
#1: The exposed steel and wood structure of the building, brick arches and polished concrete floor (which has been replaced in some parts with fan-shaped Carrara mosaic tiles or adorned with colourful rugs) evoke both the rawness ofa warehouse and the charm of a loft.
#2: Coastal influences from the 1970s pervade the Park House Food Merchants, which is organised around an open kitchen. Art Deco detailing, colourful contemporary artworks, a brick fireplace and a granite bar complement the bohemian look – contrasting, but also blending, past and present constantly.
#3: Among the thoughtful design elements are wood furniture, leather banquettes and reclaimed lighting, all of which contribute to the uniqueness of the space that evokes a sense of nostalgia.
#4: The casual seating concept helps ease diners into the comfortable setting. The airy and spacious design of the interiors encourages interaction among visitors.
