This condominium apartment in upper Bukit Timah is anything but run of the mill – its internal structure has been reconfigured to the last detail to suit the needs of its homeowner Desmond, who wanted to maximise the available space and to create a place for entertaining friends and family. To do so, Bosco of Edgeline Planners created an additional mezzanine level in the space, allowing for an additional bedroom. With a dark palette and statement leather furnishings, the home has a decidedly masculine feel.
Part sculpture, part lighting, the chandelier dominates the living area and draws attention to the soaring ceiling. The space above, originally empty, was converted to a mezzanine floor for an additional bedroom, whose window looks out onto the living room below.
Dark-tinted glass partially conceals the kitchen, but allows light to pass through for a visually uninterrupted space. Outside in the dining area, a 1.8m-long suar wood table takes pride of place, a focal point for the communal gatherings that Desmond loves.
Storage was essential for Desmond’s kitchen appliances. To keep the area neat and streamlined, a monochrome colour palette was used on the cainets and flooring. Edgeline chose to keep the cabinets handle-free, ensuring a sleek overall look.
The masculine colour palette continues in the master bedroom, with dark tones and the occasional pop of colour to enliven the space. To utilise vertical space as much as possible, they opted for wall-mounted lamps and a recessed shelf for storage.
The tinted glass makes an appearance here once more, this time encasing Desmond’s wardrobe. Clothing and accessories are hidden behind the glass, but brought into focus with the flick of a light switch. Lighting is also cleverly used to direct the eye up the stairs onto the mezzanine level, creating a visual highlight and emphasising the height of the space.
