Cleaning tips: A lemon can do so much!

Did you know a lemon has so many other functions aside from just being eaten as a fruit? We highlight the amazing powers of the lemon here!

I always have a ready supply of lemons which I use to kill bad smells in my refrigerator and microwave oven, but there are yet more uses for this wonderful fruit outside the kitchen.

The juice not only removes stains from surfaces like wooden cutting boards, but helps to kill germs as well.

For this reason, I sanitise my earrings, for example, with some lemon juice in a saucer.

It is ideal for cleaning the bathroom too - use a toothbrush dipped in lemon juice to clean the grouting or pour half a cup of juice into the toilet bowl and scrub with a toilet brush to get it sparkling again.

I also rub half a lemon over my shower stalls to get rid of water stains.

We know that adding lemon juice to the final shampoo rinse will bring out highlights in the hair. But do you also know that the lemon can be used to lighten age spots?

Just apply its juice directly to the affected area. Leave it for 15 minutes and then rinse clean. It will help to lighten your skin.

It also cleans and whitens your nails. Simply add half a lemon's worth of juice to a cup of warm water and soak your fingertips in the mixture for five minutes.

Then, rub some lemon peel back and forth against the nail.

Guess I should have half a lemon sitting on my dressing table as well.
