House Tour: Monochromatic cafe-style four-room HDB flat

For this couple who lives in this four-room HDB flat in Boon Keng, recreating the 'cafe look' they loved was key to building a cosy, inviting nest.

They approached Jane Tong from Zidane Design Associates to help design their home.

Layers of texture add highlights to the otherwise pale and neutral colour scheme of the living room.

Instead of a conventional dining table, Jane suggested a more casual setting with a tall countertop.

The cafe look wouldn't be complete without the ubiquitous blackboard - created with blackboard paint over the wall.

The king-sized bed from Grafunkt adds a pop of colour to the monochromatic room.

The bird motif and carpet grass liven up the stark background of the balcony.

The couple mostly chose loose pieces over custom-made funiture, and this cut their renovation cost down to $20,000, with an additional $15,000 spent on furnishings.
