A new set of heritage wall murals will soon be popping up on many local instagrammers' accounts. The handpainted scenes by artists Yip Yew Chong and Yuen Kum Cheong were commissioned by the directors of 222 Queen Street and 51 Waterloo Street, collectively known as 222+51, once home to Catholic High School, to celebrate the buildings' 80th anniversary.

The buildings were given a new lease of life in 2009, and are now art centres, with tenants such as art and cultural institutes, performing art centre, fitness and wellness studios, catering services and a gem museum.

The murals are a series of six door panels inspired by the colourful history of the Bras Basah area, and decpict scenes of daily life in the 60s as well as community landmarks such as the old National Library, Odeon Cinema and National Theatre (above), which have been lost to redevelopment.
