Living with children can place restrictions on a home's design.

Homeowner Desmond Ong, who studied architecture at university, viewed it as a challenge instead, creating an open-concept abode with plentiful space for his two young daughters to run around in.

Drawing lessons from his architecture education, he maximised the view of lush greenery surrounding his home by keeping the interior furnishings simple.

The family had bought the flat precisely for its green views and spent $70,000 on renovations to enhance the view, with an extra $10,000 for furnishings.

The living-dining area features a dining table that seats six comfortably. He had the table lengthened by the shop, Origin Asia, so it would be better-proportioned in relation to the room.

The open-concept kitchen flows into the dining room and is the first thing visitors see.

After hours at the workbench, Desmond just needs to look up for a relaxing view. The elbow chair by Hans Wegner is a worthwhile investment. Stationery holder from Grafunkt.

The sink of the common toilet was custom-made from concrete.
