Taking inspiration from the colour blue as it can create restful, introspective moods, and has a crisp and fresh vibe — and after intensive research with various industry players including interior designers and architects — Akzonobel's Colour of the Year 2017 is 'Denim Drift', a timeless and versatile grey-blue.

The chosen shade "appears to drift from being definitely Indigo blue to a lighter blue-grey named Smoke Grey in our colour catalogues," shares Jeremy Rowe, managing director of Akzonobel decorative paints South East and South Asia, Middle East.

Denim Drift is paired with various other colours to create palettes that homeowners can easily refer to, and help to create certain moods and ambience in their homes.

The palette Shared Individualism encourages an eclectic look in the home, while emphasising community and commonality under one roof. The contrasting colours here represent individualism, while celebrating community.

By using this palette, you can create a fresh and playful mood at home that is perfect for shared spaces that a network of people including family, friends, and relatives can enjoy together.

Work and home are increasingly becoming undivided spaces, in that some aspects of work appear at home, and vice versa. This colour palette, named The Working Home, helps create a more balanced way of living and working, and emphasises the importance of creating a home conducive for work, but yet remains cosy, warm and restful.

How is it done? This colour palette helps create different zones in the home, and a fluid environment that fits both work and play. It can also zone specific areas for working, while you remain comfortable, relaxed and focused within your living space.

The Considered Luxury palette, which features neutral colours, represents a new way of living and different ways of consuming. It is meant to look timeless, and encourages homeowners to choose well, buy less, and make the look of their home last!
