1) Aloe Vera
While people tend to grow aloe vera outdoors, bringing them into the bedroom can be wise as it actually emits oxygen at night, this can help to prevent insomnia and prevent you from waking up in the middle of the night. The bonus is that aloe vera is a hardy plant, thrives easily and does not require much watering.
2) Lavender
Long associated with relaxation, homeowners have been using lavender essential oils in burners to help reduce anxiety and create a calming environment. However, did you know that the scent can also increase light sleep and reduce rapid eye movement (REM) sleep periods. By doing so, it also reduces the amount of time needed for you to wake up fully in the morning. Another lesser known quality it has is its ability to reduce crying in babies.
3) Snake plant
While it is a common house plant, few know that the snake plant gives out oxygen at night while other plants produce carbon dioxide. This plant is also good for eliminating many types of toxic elements from the air, making it a natural form of air filter. However, do note that the snake plant and aloe vera are both poisonous for cats, so if you have a feline at home you should avoid having these plants in the house.
4) Jasmine
Commonly used in Southeast Asia, studies have shown that the smell of jasmine actually helps to reduce anxiety and invoke a sense of wellbeing. If you don't want a potted plant in the bedroom, you can simply fill a bowl with jasmine flowers and allow the fragrance to permeate throughout the room.
5) English Ivy
One of the plants that is approved by NASA for its excellent air-filteration qualities, the English ivy is not only good for removing mould in the air (by up to 94% in 12 hours), it is also good for people who suffer from asthma or other forms of breathing problems.
