Wi-Fi connectivity now available in new iRobot vacuum cleaners Roomba 890 and 690

With the launch of the new iRobot Roomba 890 and 690,you can now have Wi-Fi connectivity in more iRobot vacuuming robot cleaners. It was previously available for its top-range 900 series only.

This means that you can control the Roomba 890 and 690 via the iRobot's Home app which allows you to schedule cleaning sessions, get notifications, track its cleaning cycles, have access to customized tips and customer support.

The Roomba 890 is equipped with the dual, counter-rotating Tangle-Free rubber Extractors which capture dirt and hair from any floor type. It also has a Gen 2 motor that is 5x more powerful than the one found in the 600 and 700 series.

The Roomba 690 relies on the patented 3-Stage Cleaning System to clean carpet, rugs and hard floors. Its low height enables cleaning to be done under most furniture and kickboards.

Aside from the two Wi-Fi connected Roomba cleaners, iRobot also announced the immediate availability of the Amazon Alexa Skill for U.S customers of Wi-Fi connected vacuum models. Users can simply ask Alexa to start, stop or dock the robot via voice commands to the Amazon's Echo speaker, Echo Dot or Tap.

The Roomba 690 is available now for purchase in the U.S for US$375 (~S$523) on its website and will hit retail shelves later this quarter. The Roomba 890 will be available in the U.S in late Q2. Global markets should get these two models in late Q2 too.
