Having lived in this terrace house for over 30 years, this local family felt a natural connection to the property yet the two-storey building was beginning to look its age. The homeowners felt it was time to give the home a fresh look.
When they approached ADX Architects for some addition and alteration works, they made an unusual request. While other homeowners would have asked to maximise the available space on the plot of land, this family wanted to retain the outdoor space because the children enjoy playing on the lawn on the side of the home.
So while the spacious lawn area was retained and enhanced with landscaping, the design team did break down the walls inside the home to allow more light to enter the spaces.
They also utilised a simple cream colour scheme to make the living area look inviting and flow naturally towards the back of the home.
Thin white rails separate the stairway from the dining area without closing it off.
In line with the family’s love of greenery, the team added a planter space spaning the entire length of the home on the second storey. The homeowners were actively involved in choosing the types of plants to grow here.
Warm timber flooring harmonise with the wooden screen on the façade of the home.
The neutral palette extends to the bathrooms, creating a customised look.
In the evenings, the wood cladding on the ceiling adds a touch of cosiness to the spaces.
The stunning wood-clad ceiling becomes a focal point at the entrance of the home, creating a unique style to the porch area.
