Anna Chew, co-founder and CEO of Beam Space, a concierge storage combining warehousing and logistics in a mobile app, shares tips on decluttering your home.
In the business of storage, we are often asked, “what do people store?”
In general, you should store away larger items which take up space, or items that are not often accessed, but still precious or needed in the future. These are good examples of things to consider:
- Christmas tree and decor
Let’s face it, it is now July but your Christmas tree continues to hang out in the living room, waiting for December to arrive. Snow? It is probably dust accumulated from all those months of idle display. Could it be the reason why you haven’t had visitors to the home of late? Good time to store it away!
2. Golf clubs
Any golfer would tell you that they need a new set of clubs ever so often to improve their game. Let’s also be honest, their game is still probably on par (no pun intended) with the young kid who just started lessons a month ago with a set of starter clubs. About time to store some sets away to be rotated when needed. You now can do that with Beam Space's service which combines delivery right to your home; they’ll also pick up the set when you’re done!
3. Children’s items
Has the baby cot turned into a clothes hanger or became a cabinet overnight? Noticed that pram lying in the hallway, the one that your 6-year-old no longer uses, since she graduated to a two-wheeled bicycle? About time to store these baby equipment and furniture away. The cot can be dismantled and put away until such time the next addition comes along.

4. Furniture and home furnishings
These are great to store, as it takes up a lot of space and may no longer be fashionable. If you buy right and store it long enough, it could become a classic, or reintroduced in the home again later. Many people in the interior decor line purchase in bulk, especially during shopping trips overseas. Businesses like these benefit from being able to view their items visually on Beam Space's mobile app, like an online inventory management. Items can also be sent directly to a client’s home using the concierge service, very convenient for businesses.

5. Memories
Items like photos, or clothes that are a family heirloom, a late parent or spouse’s documents, books and little things that remind us of beautiful moments in family or friendship can be stored away and brought back every now and then. While precious, they can quickly accumulate dust and is best put away if a newborn is about to enter the family, or for those who are very sensitive to dust.
