Direct from Sweden: A sneak peek at Ikea's future products!

We're in Almult, Sweden for Ikea's Democratic Design Day, which included an exclusive preview of products planned for 2016 and 2017! With 20 new design collaborations in the works, Ikea is taking bold new steps to show off its hip, on-trend side. These are our highlights.

Ikea, sweden, new collection, Johnny Depp,
For the first time perhaps, eyeballs, skulls and vampiric cats feature on Ikea products. British menswear designer Katie Eary's Giltig range has surreal graphics such as giant eyeballs on fabrics and ornamental fish on plates. The images were inspired by Johnny Depp's character in the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

cushions, ikea, new, sweden,
Comfort is always key for Ikea. For a group of 21 designers designing for the PS 2017 range, it took the form of a giant rocking chair, and a sofa that is padded by cushions held with rubber bands to the frame.

ikea, sweden, Scandinavian,
When the design cultures of Sweden and Brazil meet, you'll get the graphic and colourful Tillfalle collection, which showcases the vibrant colours of Brazil, married with Scandinavian simplicity.

In the Glodande range, you are invited to the colourful and imaginative universe of Dutch fashion designer Walter Van Beirendonck.

The playful graphics, printed on fabrics, stationery, shopping bags, rugs and porcelain, are based on a gang of characters he invented.

The Viktigt collection will be familiar, but at the same time exciting to Asians, for its use of natural materials such as water hyacinth, rattan, and bamboo.

Ikea, designer,
It's exciting because renowned Scandinavian designer Ingegerd Raman (who was working with the materials for the first time), has used them to create sophisticated, clean and contemporary shapes.
