Here's how to use concrete in your bathroom

Want to use concrete in your bathroom but don't know where to start? Start here! First up, make sure your contractor or designer treats the concrete before using it in the bathroom.

TIP: Concrete is a naturally porous material, which means it will soak up liquids like a sponge! Left untreated, it will eventually become stained, discoloured and... horrors! Grow mildew and other microorganisms. There are a variety of ways to treat concrete, so make sure your contractor treats it with a chemical soak first or covers it with sealant or a good finish. This treatment has to be repeated every two years.

These homeowners made use of concrete in the bathrooms, but softened the harsh look in a variety of ways. Check it out below:

The homeowner paired the raw, unfinished look of his concrete counter with a surface of cheerful blue tiles and a palette of neutral colours.

A pebbled concrete shower floor, together with the choppy and unfinished appearence of the concrete walls and floors make this bathroom unique.

PAIRING CONCRETE AND WOOD TOGETHER

The wood-look tiles and wood-look laminates help bring a bit of colour and life into the concrete bathroom, creating a beautiful contrast between nature and the urban landscape.

USING CONCRETE AS AN OUTSTANDING FEATURE

No need to use concrete throughout the bathroom. Make it into an outstanding feature like this owner did. The open-concept bathroom gave the owner more room for creativity, so he set the concrete counter and exposed pipes on a bed of pebbles.

USING IT ALONGSIDE NATURAL STONE
