House Tour: $60,000 renovation for a simple and subtly stylish HDB home

This resale five-room HDB apartment in Telok Blangah is home to a young couple who loves Aussie-style, loft-like homes and they wanted a simple, minimalist feel in their home.

Design manager Winnie Bek from Spacious Planners focused on using natural-looking materials along with an earthy palette to inject a cosy feel.

The living area was made spacious by concealing all the wiring and piping. The Eames rocking chair lends a dash of colour to the living room's neutral background.

The quirky clock perks up an otherwise nondescript cement-screed wall.
Winnie also proposed to maximise use of the kitchen space for dining purposes as the couple does not engage in heavy cooking.

She left the kitchen-dining area mainly open, save for a narrow cement-screed wall which provides subtle demarcation of the two spaces.

Pipes hidden behind partition panels create a streamlined kitchen. Also, modern-looking kitchen cabinets featuring black glass doors and a teak wood veneer give the space a minimalist look.

The $60,000 renovation resulted in a house that fulfils practical functions in a simple and subtly stylish way.
