House Tour: $85K renovation for this posh five-room HDB flat in Punggol

This five-room HDB flat in Punggol has been transformed with the help of Arjan Twilhaar of Aiden T, who turned the cookie-cutter interior into a showcase of contemporary luxury akin to the showflat of a swish condo development.

Arjan proposed plush confines similar to a cosy lounge or club, but make it more contemporary and liveable with a colour palette of purple, beige and bronze.

The living room is divided into two seating areas - a layout more common in larger American or European homes. "This provides different areas for guests to hang out in - for instance, one group might want to watch TV, while the other wants to chat," says Arjan.

The opulent combination of deep purple and a matt-gold leather-lookalike wallcovering is offset by the clean white of the walls and dining table.

Keeping the kitchen space sleek and clutter-free was instrumental in evoking an "expensive" feel. Two features stand out in this space - the chandelier and a U-shaped worktop.

A smaller sink set in the solid-surface counter can be covered when unused. Wasit-high drawers behind silver laminate flip-down panels make it easy to retrieve items.

With the rest of the home more akin to that of a five-star establishment with its posh leanings, visitors are surprised to learn that the entire exercise only cost the couple $85,000, including furnishings.
