House tour: Boutique-style studio apartment

Using the right furniture, concept and colour, this home was turned into a living space much larger than it looked. The 465sqf studio apartment has no dining table, which frees up space for gatherings. The living area now fits eight very comfortably.

The compact space has an efficient layout. The interiors loop around a central wall, which neatly separates the living and sleeping quarters.

Light, natural or otherwise, brings out the best in tight spaces. In this case, the sunlit open-plan interiors are complemente with white walls that lift the space visually from its sombre, dark-stained wood floors.

On this white palette, texture and pattern are layered to create exciting multi-dimensional surfaces. The repeated geometric patterns on the wallpaper help to create a sense of infinity.

Left pretty much in the original state, the home was dressed up with chic furnishings like Pop Art prints and funky lighting from Moooi.
