House Tour: Light colours and wood tones for a cosy home

Lots of us seem to really love the combination of light wood and white for our homes here, but why not try mixing it up a little? Try a palette of other light and refreshing colours (like blue), and playing around with different wood tones, as seen in the apartment of Jefery Kurniadidjaja, co-founder of local designer furniture store Grafunkt.

Dyed a brilliant blue, the recycled Turkish rug is a welcome splash of colour amid light-hued furniture and wood finishes in the living area.

Sculptural lamps lend refinement to the open-concept common area, which is otherwise more about laid-back chic with mismatched dining chairs. To add interest to a corner, the walls were painted a shade of robin egg blue, contrasting subtly against the white walls.

The kitchen has a homey, lived-in feel, with an Ikea laminate-and-wood system and subway tiles from a shop in Balestier.

The shelving in the son’s room – which is painted a vibrant blue for a fresher feel – is part of a Swedish work system that can be expanded with options such as a study table.

The bathroom is given a touch of luxe with marble tiles. An understated vanity, which is actually a modified desk and console, pairs nicely with the frameless mirror.
