House Tour: Luxurious modern classical-style three-storey semi-detached house

An expat couple and their three daughters live in this three-storey semi-detached house in Bukit Timah.

The custom-designed home was done by design firm Splendor, a specialist in the Modern Classical style.

Splendor retained the original configuration of the house to save time, ony adding a wall to the master bedroom to give it a more intimate feel.

The relaxing study lounge was made for the lady of the house to enjoy her vast book collection in.

Rather than highlight the living room feature wall with a different coloured paint, the design team applied wallpaper in panels for greater tactility and visual depth.

Walnut wood panelling adds depth to the living room’s vertical surfaces.

The family’s Spain-bought buffet hutch blends with the existing mouldings and coffered ceiling in the dining room.

Creamy wall-to-wall carpeting goes on safari with a zebra skin rug and a pair of zebra-print ottomans. The bed is placed diagonally and off-centre to create a focal point.

A map imported from Paris clads the ceiling to “disguise the awkward pitch of the roof”, say the designers. Low-key furniture pieces draw attention to the one-of-a-kind ceiling art.
