House Tour: Stylish and unique three-room walk-up unit in Tiong Bahru

Loving her Tiong Bahru vintage pedigree home for what it is, this homeowner let its imperfections be - from the raw wall brick walls to the peeling paint on the window sills.

She faced a big challenge when choosing a decor theme out of the several she loved, and engaged the help of designer Jack Loh of Three-d Conceptwerke.

Since both loved contemporary styles and shared a sentimentailty of the past, they decided to use a blend of these in the decor.

The contemporary look acted as a clean base on which to apply vintage touches, giving the home heaps of character in keeping with its heritage as an apartment built by the Singapore Improvement Trust in 1930s.

The original window frames were retained, letting light in and preserving the home’s retro vibe. Armchair and table from Lorgan’s The Retro Store.

With plenty of natural light and a toned-down palette, the home looks cosy and inviting. Floor lamp from Lorgan’s The Retro Store.

A vintage sound system, including a turntable, makes an old-school design statement in the living room.

The 1970s cabinet holds antique cameras which the homeowner acquired on her travels. Pop artwork and clock from Lorgan’s The Retro Store.

This sunny balcony space next to the bedroom is perfect for a spot of reading and net-surfing.

The renovation cost $80,000.
