House Tour: Wood and concrete in this spacious penthouse unit

This penthouse apartment at Yio Chu Kang is home a couple in their 30s and two young children. The couple opted for pared-down decor and shared this with their interior designer Riston Foo of Whiz Concepts.

Riston's first task was to open up the layout to achieve the loft look the couple wanted. The wall between the living area and the third bedroom was removed, along with the wall between the kitchen and dining area. The home now has roomy space to entertain guests, and for the kids to play in.

A large, customised decal alludes to the home’s rooftop garden and adds interest to the large expanse of wall.

The laminate flooring rises like a wave up this side of the dining table, fully integrating it into the space. The full-height cabinet offers extra storage. Ice bucket and thermal flask, from The Touch.

Wood and concrete, two of the couple’s must-have materials, harmonise in the living room. The vertical slats and the lines on the wallpaper at the left accentuate the space’s volume. Teapot, from The Touch.

Slide to hide the headboard partially concealing the window, Riston designed a sliding headboard in the bedroom so that the couple could access the opening when needed.
