How To Create The Urban Loft Look

'Loft' typically refers to an open space under a roof or an attic of a house. While not many of us have the luxury of having such a space (or a ceiling that's high enough to construct a loft), we can acheive the same open-concept, raw and industrial feel of a loft with some decor tweaks.

+ Exposed finishes and materials — Brick walls are a key feature in lofts. Whether painted white, black or left untouched, a brick wall adds a strong industrial vibe to the home.

+ Consider leaving trunking exposed too! Use stainless steel, chrome or bronze in the kitchen or bathroom. It gives off a worn and aged look!

+ To complement the raw, industrial look, add warm, earth tones to your home with colours like deep brown, gray and black. Throw in interesting art pieces and soft textiles to liven up the space!

+ Consider ways you would store your personal and work related items separate from each other if your loft apartment is a home office. An open-concept space will only work if there is minimal clutter!
