Pantone Colour of the Year 2016: How to use them in your home

The Pantone Colour of the Year is a shade that captures the sentiment of the times, a "colour snapshot of what we see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude" they say. For 2016, and for the first time ever, the Pantone Colour of the Year is not one hue, but a blend of two shades: Rose Quartz and Serenity. To put it simply, Rose Quartz is a baby pink, while Serenity is a blue/ violet - both are lighter shades that are also said to be mid-tones.

They were chosen for their characteristics of relaxation, compassion, warmth, composure and gentleness, much needed qualities in our unstable times. If you do want to inject them (and some of the above qualities) in your home, here are some design inspirations and tips you can use.

Design firm Free Space Intent used two shades of pink in the dining area. You can see how well the grey of the concrete in the kitchen goes with pink, too.pink wall, dining room, Free Space Intent, Pantone Colour of the Year

If you're unsure how to use the colour, add it in small doses first, like with cushions. Design by Maramiri.
