Here's how to zone a space with colourful floor tiles!

An open-plan interior is the in-thing right now, but how do you stylishly zone the different spaces within your home? This interior designer has enhanced this apartment with the help of a variety of floor finishes.

The communal area of the apartment appears to have "rugs" that are actually patterned floor tiles marking out the various zones. They stand out against the glossy white base flooring.

For a quirky look, the patterned tiles have been laid in a random "patchwork" design.

For the TV area, an almost all-white palette comes to life thanks to the ornate tiles and subtle wooden accents.

One corner houses the art studio, which has timber strip flooring that clearly defines the area. It can also be closed off with sliding panels that tuck away neatly out of sight.

A simple but attractive feature of the master bedroom is the customised bed and linear headboard design that allows the homeowner to display books and memorabilia.

The bedroom has yet another floor finish! Parquet flooring gives the space warmth and depth, while also contrasting against the dark tile finish in the adjoining bathroom.
