Tricks to cleaning your gas stove

(Interior design by JQ Ong/ The Association)

Did you know, a greasy stovetop can be a fire hazard? It is dangerous to cook on a stovetop that has oil, rust, dirt and food debris on it as they could catch fire and cause a disaster in your kitchen! Also, keeping clean ensures that pests don't invade your kitchen and it makes your kitchen look good, too! Here's how you can clean and care for your stove:

■ Switch off the gas valve and make sure all burners are turned off and cooled down.

■ Disassemble them one by one, taking out each unit’s removable parts: grate, cap, burner and drip.

■ Soak each part in hot soapy water for 15 minutes and gently scrub. Rinse thoroughly and towel dry.

■ Clear the burner’s flame openings by using a pin or needle to poke out dirt and gunk.

■ Use steel wool to scrub off food crusts from the burner base, and a sponge to absorb loose debris.

■ Reinstall and reposition the burners properly.
