Unsure of paint colour names? This guide might help.

Colour is subjective to how your brain perceives it. If you associate a certain shade of blue with the ocean, or a purple hue for grapes, the next person might have a different colour or shade in mind.

Although colour names close the gap between these differences, a web developer's turquoise (determined by the colour hex) may still differ from the Pantone chart's version of the same name.

Looks like we will have to physically point to a hue on the colour chart, so that our interior designer or contractor will be on the same page! In the meantime, if you can't seem to put a finger on that specific shade you love, here's a chart that might help you.

This colour chart was put together by writer, illustrator, and graphic designer to "create specificity in my writing".

"I can paint a more evocative image in my reader’s mind if I describe a character’s hair as the color of rust or carrot-squash, rather than red," she says on her website. Next time you are planning a paint job, and want to evoke a certain mood for your space, bring Ingrid's colour thesaurus to the paint shop!
