Instead of relying on toxic cleaning agents, why not try making some cleaners with the stuff in your very own home?

  1. Save your peels of citrus fruits and add them to a jar of white vinegar, then let them sit for at least a week. Decant the liquid into a spray bottle and you'll have a homemade all-purpose cleaner that doesn't reek of vinegar.
  2. For a ready-any-time cleaning rag, soak washcloths in a solution of two parts water to one part white vinegar, and store in a wide jar. Squeeze the juice from a wedge of lemon into the vinegar, and add two drops of tea tree oil to mask the odour.
  3. Make your own glass cleaner by stirring together equal parts lemon juice and water.
