  1. The lines to cut and lay the tiles for flooring and walls should always be predetermined before installing to minimise the amount of wastage.
  2. Be prepared to purchase extra tiles as installation might incur some breakage or cutting. Depending on the shape and size, the standard is about 10 to 15 per cent more than the amount your surface requires.
  3. Be sure to get your contractor to prepare the subsurface neatly, and follow the tile manufacturer’s installation instructions specifically.
  4. The grouting can either be matched to the colour of the tile, or create a contrast. A near-white or light grey can also help to create clean lines throughout the wall and floor.
