Fun and creative meeting or event spaces are hard to find, but Huone (say hu-won-eh) was recently launched in Singapore to fill this gap in the market. Conceptualised in Finland, the award-winning brand has recently opened a 20,000sqf venue in Clarke Quay.
The Warehouse room.
There are 11 different themed rooms, which you can rent on demand. It’s the first of its kind in the Asia Pacific region, and based on the founders’ belief that corporate events “don’t have to be so formal, but rather more engaging”. The brain child of Evon Soderlund, Huone was first launched in 2012 in Helsinki, where it has been recognised as the “best event venue in Finland”. And now, Evon has partnered with Joewin Tan, who runs an events management business, to offer an interesting and inspiring location here for businesses and individuals to host board meetings, team building sessions, product launches, social events and more.
The Igloo room.
In particular, three of the uniquely designed rooms have Finnish themes — Igloo, Cottage and Forest. The Igloo room, with its rounded structure, has a cocooning feel and a simulated wintry scene — definitely making for a distinctive location in tropical Singapore.
The Forest room.
On the other hand, the Forest room with its “birch tree” columns is the biggest and accommodates up to 150 people. Inspired by the forests of Finland, it also has foliage print curtains to separate the space if needed.
The Cottage room.
While there is no need for actual fireplaces in this climate, the Cottage room is outfitted with a simulated fireplace to evoke cosiness, as well as a real rock feature wall and wood-look wallpaper, to resemble a Nordic home.
The Swing room.
Other rooms include the Swing room with a treehouse, Theatre room that is inspired by the Moulin Rouge, and the Runway room with a catwalk! Some rooms even have balconies, which make for great breakout areas.
The Runway room.
Each has been designed with lots of thought, tells Joewin, integrating a good audio system and sound-proofing acoustics. Their components are also conducive to a more social setting, such as having lounge-height rather than desk-height tables, and customised furniture that is flexible to accommodate different arrangements.
The communal dining area.
Huone Singapore also offers the services of an in-house chef — Peranakan and Finnish food is a menu highlight, and event consultants to cater to your needs and programme. Prices for this all-in-one concept start from $80 for half a day, with rooms being subjected to a minimum charge.
Huone Singapore is at #03-01, 3D River Valley Road, Clarke Quay, tel: 8368-6373, www.huone.events/sg.
