Previously the home of Open Door Policy, 19 Yong Siak Street has a new occupant also by the SPA Esprit Group. The Butcher’s Wife perpetuates the gluten-free legacy of its predecessor, serving up flavourful modern European cuisine with delightful mains like its Grilled Octopus ($28), which won over this writer, to desserts like the refreshing Pineapple Carpaccio with curry crumble on the side ($14).

Looking at the long menu, and not forgetting, the extensive wine list, it is difficult to comprehend why more restaurants don’t accommodate coeliacs. After all, The Butcher’s Wife fits right in a society that is slowly, but surely, being roused to the benefits of healthier food.
