Good news for homeowners in the West: the 3rd IKEA store is opening in Singapore, and it’s in Jurong East.

The first small-store concept in Southeast Asia, the third IKEA outlet will be spread across three floors in the JEM shopping mall, spanning a total of 6,500sqm.

“This will be the first time we are establishing a smaller IKEA store format as a tenant within a shopping centre in this region, ” said Jaap Doornbos, the IKEA Retail Director for Singapore & Vietnam. “There are only a few other IKEA stores like it in the world today! It will be easier than ever for people to just pop in for some inspiration, home furnishing products and, of course, our Swedish meatballs.”

For most of us, visiting IKEA has always meant blocking out a full afternoon and having to arrange transport to one of its standalone stores. Now that the new outlet is so easily accessible via MRT and housed within a large shopping district, it’s much more convenient to just pop in and grab what we need while running other errands.

This upcoming store will be a mix of the familiar and the new: while the layout will be much more compact compared to the Alexandra and Tampines outlets, customers can expect to shop from the full IKEA range, and also enjoy IKEA restaurant favourites such as the Swedish meatballs and chicken wings.

The new store is set to open in 2021.
