It's a great time to be a design student in Singapore, with the many opportunities available to young and aspiring designers, especially over the last few years! One example is Ikea's Young Designer Award, back again this year, with the theme “It Starts with the Food”.

Launched in 2014, the Ikea Singapore’s Young Designer Award is a design competition that allows tertiary students to showcase their creativity in developing home furnishing solutions.
All you have to do is to submit, by May 5 2016, your home furnishing ideas based on this year’s theme, which centres on Singaporeans' favourite pastime — eating! Consider current lifestyle trends, in relation to food and eating habits, and design a solution that makes food-related activities at home easier, inspiring and enjoyable.
The top-prize winner will be awarded a $1,500 cash prize and a trip to IKEA of Sweden! Also, the top 20 finalists will enjoy a mentoring session on their prototypes with Iina Vuorivirta, a designer from Ikea of Sweden.
The three judges who will help to determine a winner are:
1. Lina Vuorivirta, designer at Ikea
2. Jeffrey Ho, executive director at Design Singapore Council
3. Rebeckka Wong, editor of Home & Decor
Find out more about the competition, and submit your best ideas by May 5 via IKEA.sg/YDA.
